Postdoctoral Scientists

HIV Molecular Virology / Cell-based screening

Job Description:


RetroVirox is seeking enthusiastic HIV scientists with experience in molecular virology techniques and cell-based screening assays. These scientists will work in a discovery team performing medium and high-throughput screens of small-molecules and evaluating novel approaches to block viral replication. Experience working in a fast-paced start-up research setting is highly desirable. These positions are available immediately and are open only to United States citizens or permanent residents


Responsibilities:


These are hands-on position, with an estimated 80% of the time working in a BSL2/3 laboratory with infectious HIV. Duties of the successful candidates will include: 


  1. Engineer and optimize cell-based assays for screening of small molecule inhibitors

  2. Perform screens and validate the antiviral activity of hits

  3. Work with HIV live infectious virus and lentiviral vectors in a BSL2/3 biocontainment laboratory

  4. Independently design, conduct experiments, and analyze critical data

  5. Present verbal and written reports to supervisor and to funding institutions


Minimum Requirements:


  1. Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, preferably in a discipline of Molecular Virology

  2. 4+ years of experience working with live HIV in an industry environment or equivalent postdoctoral experience in the academic field

  3. 10 years of experience in Biomedical research

  4. Demonstrated ability to productively conduct scientific research projects

  5. Able to work independently with minor supervision

  6. Experience with laboratory methods to grow, culture, titrate, and measure infectivity of HIV

  7. Strong technical skills in molecular biology


Desired Skills:


  1. Experience developing cell-based assays

  2. Hands-on experience with in-vitro antibody techniques (FACS and ELISA)

  3. Experience in drug discovery of small molecule inhibitors

  4. Experience using automatation for medium and high throughput screening technologies

  5. Proven record of publications in the field of HIV research

  6. Demonstrated ability to generate program support through the acquisition of grant funds

  7. Excellent organizational, written and communication skills
