Molecular Virologist (full-time position)
Job Description
RetroVirox is seeking research scientists and lab technicians with experience in molecular virology and cell-based assays for the screening of lead antivirals. These scientists will evaluate inhibitors blocking replication of HIV, Dengue virus, influenza, hepatitis viruses and other human viruses. This position is available immediately, and eligible to US citizens or permanent residents only.
Responsibilities
These are hands-on position, with an estimated 80% of the time working in a BSL2/3 laboratory with infectious viruses. Duties of the successful candidates will include:
•Perform antiviral screens, confirm and validate hits with antiviral activity
•Engineer, optimize and validate cell-based assays for screening of antivirals
•Prepare data reports and protocols in written formats
•Work independently with minor supervision and abiding to strict deadlines
Requirements
•4+ years industry experience (or equivalent experience in the academic field) with cell-based viral systems
•Ph.D. in Biochemistry/Molecular Virology or similar field (applicable only for research scientist positions)
•Strong technical skills in molecular virology and cell-based assay development
•Experience with molecular methods to handle at least one of these viruses: HIV, Influenza, Dengue, HCV or HBV (including techniques for virus titration and evaluation of viral infectivity)
•Experience in evaluating the in vitro antiviral activity of small molecule inhibitors and biologics
•Experience working with infectious materials and live viruses
•Excellent abilities to create written scientific reports and protocols, and to communicate results in oral presentations

Virologist (temporary position)
Job Description
We are seeking a temporary molecular virologist to complete a 3-4 month assignment to validate lead inhibitors of an HIV screening campaign. The scientist will be engaged in the performance of experiments to validate the activity of HIV inhibitors and make preliminary characterization of their mechanism of action. This temporary position is expected to start no later than February 15, 2012 and will last through early May 2012 with the possibility of extension pending from completion of the study.

This is a hands-on position, with an estimated 90% of the time working in a BSL2/3 laboratory with infectious HIV. Duties of the successful candidates will include:
•Perform HIV infectivity and replication assays
•Confirm and validate the antiviral activity of hits
•Prepare data reports and protocols
•Follow strict deadlines for the completion of the project
Requirements
•Experience with molecular methods to handle HIV in tissue culture under BSL2-enhanced conditions (including techniques for virus titration and evaluation of viral infectivity and replication)
•Experience with cell-based assays
•Strong technical skills in molecular virology and cell-based assay development
•Experience in evaluating the in vitro antiviral activity of small molecule inhibitors and biologics
•Excellent organization skills and ability to write scientific reports
