Postdoctoral / Junior  Research Associate (full-time position)

Job Description


RetroVirox is seeking a postdoctoral or junior research associate to work in the identification and characterization of antivirals. This scientist will used cell-based in vitro assays to characterize inhibitors of virus replication against a variety of human pathogens and understand their mechanism of action. Candidates are expected to work with minimal supervision on NIH-sponsored projects. This position is available starting January / February 2014, and is eligible only to US citizens or US permanent residents.


Responsibilities


This is a hands-on position, with an estimated 70-80% of the time working in a BSL2/3 laboratory with infectious viruses. Duties of the successful candidate will include: 


Perform antiviral screens to identify active hits and characterize m.o.a

Engineer, optimize and validate cell-based assays for in vitro screening of antivirals

Prepare detailed SOP protocols and reports for funding institutions

Abide to strict GLP guidelines for experimental work and data recording


Requirements


2+ years laboratory experience with antiviral cell-based assays or alternatively proven experience in optimizing cell-based assays

Open to Ph.D. and non-Ph.D.s. Experience in an industrial environment is desired

Strong technical skills in cell-based assay development, including engineering and validation

Excellent abilities to create written protocols, abide to GLP guidelines, and communicate results in oral presentations at company’s meetings

Experience in molecular methods to handle, analyze, and titrate human viruses is preferred, in particular handling of infectious HIV, HRSV, HBV or LCMV

Experience in performing high throughput screening campaigns with cell-based assays is a plus

Director Virology  (full-time position)

Job Description


RetroVirox is seeking a Director of Virology to manage the day to day operations of the CRO unit of the company, the internal discovery programs and their staff. Candidates are expected to have excellent supervisory and communication skills, and train and oversee the new scientific staff of the company. The Director will be responsible for ensuring that the Company meets the requirements of its Sponsors, and deliverables are completed on schedule and within budget. The Director of Virology will also play an important role in securing new sources of revenue, including Government grants, CRO customers, and will establish collaborations with academic and industrial laboratories. This position is only available to US citizens or permanent residents.


Responsibilities


Duties of the  Director of Virology will include: 



Oversee the optimization and validation of cell-based assays for in vitro screening of antivirals

Train RetroVirox scientific staff

Review the quality of SOP protocols, records and scientific reports

Ensure operations in the Company abide to strict GLP guidelines and biosafety requirements and potential deviations are identified

Approve materials delivered to Sponsors

Coordinate scientific assignments and projects

Review the quality of SOP protocols, records and scientific reports

Identify alternative sources of revenue, including the preparation of grant applications



Requirements


Ph.D. with 10+ years laboratory experience working with at least four different human viruses (HIV, HBV, HCV, HCMV, HRSV, influenza, Dengue, Rhinovirus, etc)

5+ years of industry experience working at the preclinical level with focus on early stage drug discovery

Experience in performing high throughput screening campaigns with cell-based assays, ideally against viral targets

Excellent abilities to create written protocols, abide to GLP guidelines, communicate results in oral presentations and supervise scientific staff

Relevant publication record in peer-reviewed scientific journals

Virologists and Cell-based Assay Scientist (temporary positions)

Job Description


Temporary  positions are available for molecular virologist and scientists with expertise in development of cell-based assays to complete 3-6 month assignments. These scientists work on projects to validate lead inhibitors identified in antiviral screening campaigns and then make preliminary characterization of their mechanism of action. Temporary position may be available at any time and are available only to US citizens or permanent residents only.


Responsibilities


This are hands-on position, with an estimated 80% effort working in a BSL2-enhanced laboratory with infectious viruses. Duties of the successful candidates will include: 


Perform infectivity and replication assays

Confirm and validate the antiviral activity of hits

Prepare data reports and SOP protocols

Follow strict deadlines for the completion of the project


Requirements


These are hands-on position, with an estimated 70-80% of the time working in a BSL2/3 laboratory with infectious viruses. Duties of the successful candidates will include:


Experience with molecular methods to handle viruses in tissue culture under BSL2-enhanced conditions (including techniques for virus titration and evaluation of viral infectivity and replication)

Experience with cell-based assays

Strong technical skills in molecular virology and cell-based assay development

Experience in evaluating the in vitro antiviral activity of small molecule inhibitors and biologics

Excellent organization skills and ability to write scientific reports

Requirements


Specific requirements vary with the nature of the topic of the internship. Nevertheless, interest in exploring the field of Biomedical Sciences or in pursuing careers in Biotechnology is expected among our interns. Previous experience in Biotechnology or laboratory settings is a plus for most of our internships. Interns at RetroVirox are treated as employees, given specific assignments and expected to be highly responsive and to demonstrate professional work ethics at all times. Even though we understand the importance of interns to commit to their academic efforts and classroom attendance, all interns are expected to:
